Barbara graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Clarinet Performance, and is currently the principal clarinetist with the Symphony of the Kootenays.
Her versatile music career also includes performing on saxophone and flute in a wide variety of groups from swing music to rock and roll. She performs in a number of ensembles, including the Southern Stardust Big Band and The Calgary Wind Quintet.
Raised in Calgary, Barbara gained experience as an international musician when she won a scholarship early in her career to attend the Salzburg Mozarteum in Austria.
She has studied under numerous teachers including Stan Climie, Steve Amsel and Richard Waller.
Barbara has taught privately and as a school woodwind clinician for over 35 years, and also enjoys repairing musical instruments as a hobby.
Rachael Flatt completed her Bachelor of Music, specializing in Studio Teaching, at the University of Calgary under the instruction of Ingrid Crozman and Philippa Fullerton. She also studied Baroque Flute with Genevieve Blanchard and has had lessons with Peter Lloyd, Doug Stuart and Doris Dungan.
Rachael has performed in Spain, France, and around Canada as a soloist and with groups such as Les Quatres, The Carmen Duo, Bow Valley Chorus, and Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed in masterclasses such as Aria Summer Music Academy under Bonita Boyd and Fiona Wilkinson and In Search Of Inspiration with Wissam Boustany and Max Shoenfeld.
Rachael has had recordings played on CBC radio, has recorded for theatrical productions with various companies, and has also done an educational recording for band programs in Japan. Rachael has been teaching privately and working as a clinician for 23 years and has a passion for connecting with young players while fostering their growth as musicians.
Oboist Aidan Dugan is an active freelancer and teacher based in Calgary, AB. Aidan completed a Master of Music degree at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa. Aidan also holds an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
An active freelance artist, Aidan has performed frequently with many orchestras across Canada, including the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Regina Symphony, Ottawa Symphony, Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra, Ontario Philharmonic, National Youth Orchestra Canada and the National Academy Orchestra.
Aidan maintains an independent teaching studio as well as a reed-making business, and is also a reedmaker for MKL Reeds. A finalist in the NACO Bursary Competition in 2012 (honorable mention), he was also awarded Apprentice of the Year with the National Academy Orchestra in 2014. In 2018, Aidan participated in the orchestral program at the prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado. Most recently, Aidan won an oboe position in the Canadian Armed Forces Music Branch.
Breanne attended the University of British Columbia where she received her Bachelor of Music. Afterwards, she went on to receive a scholarship to attend Indiana University for her Masters of Music. As a student, Breanne was lucky enough to spend her summers playing for the National Academy Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
After graduating with her Masters, Breanne returned to Canada where she won the position of Principal horn of the Kamloops Symphony in November of 2017. As a freelancer, Breanne has performed with many ensembles including the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Foothills Brass, Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra and the Vancouver Island Symphony.
Breanne recently completed her Bachelors of Education and is now enjoying teaching Grade 3 and Music.
